Over the years, we added commercial assistance towing & salvage to our business.
During that time, due to the need for divers on various salvage projects, we began offering diving services for necessary underwater survey & maintenance purposes.
This evolved into locating lost items such as moorings and personal items, to which we later added professional metal detecting for lost items onshore, and in the water.
For several years, from 1998 until the serious boat fires at the marina in Sesuit Harbor, we operated one towboat (30'). Following that fire, in 2001, we added a second towboat (42') with a significant array of salvage gear.
We operated as TowBOATUS Northcape in Cape Cod Bay from 1999 until 2010, then operated as an independent tower until 2016.
We cut back to just using the larger towboat which, in addition to towing/salvage jobs, was used to continue a pot-fishery for Black Bass in Nantucket Sound which we started in 1981.
In 2016, it was no longer profitable to continue the towing/salvage work because the towing business, unlike Florida and the warmer climes, was a seasonal one but with year-round maintenance and insurance expenses.
Likewise the pot-fishery. Failure by the Division of Marine Fisheries to enact timely regulations led to over-fishing and elimination of breeding stock. The fish were wiped out.
We then opted to re-focus our business plan. We zeroed in on applying what we had experienced, and learned, over the past several decades into land-based operations.
Using contacts and connections from our pot-fishing time, we started "Bait Depot", filling a need for reasonably priced frozen bait for lobstermen where we bought bait sourced from around the world and retailed it locally.
We continue to do that, but climate change issues have driven the lobsters further off-shore, and reduced the number of fishermen with boats big enough to safely venture the 50-100 miles they would have to go.
Safety and preventive maintenance have always been our top priorities.
We combined those priorities and added a year-round Home Watch business with the capabilities of not only watching properties, but detecting present and/or potential issues and resolving them as well.
Reverting back towards our humble beginnings in the early 1960s, we have revived an automotive/marine repair & maintenance division, which provides necessary services which are either unavailable locally, or priced too hign for many local residents.
